London, November 15th, 2010 - Ex Aqua and Astusboats are pleased to announce the launch of the Astus 18.2 trimaran, latest addition to the Astusboats range and successor to the Astus 16.1. The Astus 18.2 will be officially launched at the 2010 Paris Boat Show.
A Fresh Approach to Trimaran Day Sailing
The Astus 18.2 builds on the success of the Astus 16.1 by implementing design clues from the latest models of the new Astusboats range. The longer floats offer a greater speed potential and support a more powerful rig in the sport version.
One boat, two versions
The Astus 18.2 is available in two versions which together satisfy the needs of a wide range of sailors. The standard version, with a relatively modest sail area, is ideal for beginners and family sailing. The sport version, with 18% more sail area, backstay and mainsheet traveller provides more power and more sail control for exhilarating performance.
The Astus 18.2's floats are mounted on telescopic supports and can be extended or retracted within seconds on the water or on shore. Thanks to this ingenious design the boat can be launched from narrow slip ways and moored in monohull marina berths, whilst offering full stability on the water with the floats extended. The swing centreboard and rudder make it easy and safe to wander into shallow waters.
The vast cockpit (2.5m long) offers ample accommodation for up to five people and extra room is provided on the large trampolines. The large cockpit locker provides plenty of dry storage capacity. At 260kg (500 kg with the trailer), the Astus 18.2 is very light for a boat of its size and can be towed by any small car.
"Astusboats's vocation is to design accessible and affordable sailing boats that offer maximum pleasure with minimum hassle. Light and easy
to handle, the Astus 18.2 is the perfect day sailer. It is very accessible to beginners whilst providing rewarding sensations to more experienced sailors." says Jean-Hubert Pommois, Managing Director of Astusboats.
"The Astus 18.2 offers an attractive alternative to monohull dayboats. Its stability, extensive cockpit and trampoline space make it ideal for family sailing." says Claire Guignabaudet, Principal of Ex Aqua.
